EMR’s projects include eFootball.Pro, the first eSports tournament planner for football video games. Seeking investors, we created Trials, allowing casual players to become Pro gamers for top European football clubs. Our ultimate goal was to establish the world’s first football eSports league.
◎ Goals and Biggest Challenges
The main goal of this project was to design both a website and a mobile app for a brand-new football eSports competition. The challenge was to define the user experience from scratch for two very different user types: players and viewers, across multiple touchpoints.
One of the biggest challenges was the lack of references. I had to design completely outside my comfort zone, learning a new visual language specific to eSports while balancing it with my naturally minimalistic design approach. On top of that, both the website and the app involved a high number of dynamic components and edge cases, which required a very structured and thoughtful design process.
For the app in particular, the main challenge was turning a complex competition management flow, including match reporting and result validation, into a simple, intuitive experience. By breaking down complex actions into clear steps, relying on familiar interaction patterns, we were able to reduce friction and improve usability.
Working in an agile environment with constant feedback, close collaboration with developers, and ongoing user testing was key to the project’s success, and ultimately helped turn a highly complex system into a product that users could easily understand.
